Product does not load in MSFS

Is your product not loading in Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS)?
Is the default scenery still showing instead of your payware scenery?
Okay, let's try to solve that!

Locating the Community folder
The Community folder is usually located at one of these locations:
  • C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community (Microsoft Store Installation)
  • C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community (Steam Installation)

Verify the product is installed

  1. Launch the Contrail desktop app and navigate to the product page. You can navigate to the product page by clicking on Search in the top menu, then enter the ICAO code or part of the product name to filter the list. Open the product by clicking on the result.

  2. On the right side, Contrail should indicate that the product is installed to a library or the Community folder of MSFS.

  3. Installed to Contrail Library
Navigate to the folder and verify it exists. Then navigate to your MSFS Community folder and verify that the product folder has been successfully linked to the Community folder. Look for the product folder in your Community folder, if it exists, it has been linked successfully.

Solution: If the product is not installed, re-run the installation in Contrail and possibly select a different library or the Community folder as installation target.

2

Verify it shows up in MSFS's Content Manager

  1. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator
  2. Navigate to Profile > Content Manager and then enter the ICAO code or part of the name in the Search Box

  3. The product should show up as installed

Solution: If the product does not show as installed in the Content Manager, re-run the installation in Contrail and possibly select a different library or the Community folder as installation target.

Multiple installations of MSFS?

Do you have Microsoft Flight Simulator installed multiple times? A side-by-side installation of MSFS is possible, e.g. installed via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
In this case, the product could have ended up in the wrong Community folder, since you have one for each installation of MSFS.

Solution: If you are not using both installations of MSFS, the easiest fix is to uninstall the version you are not using. Then install your products to the right Community folder using the Contrail desktop app.
If you are using both versions, you can manually copy & paste the product folder from one Community folder to the other. Contrail currently does not support managing of multiple MSFS installations. This might change with a future release.
